Some knights ride out for glory. This one wandered into a labyrinth and made some truly questionable life choices.

What a Horrible Knight is a tight, clever introductory adventure for Mythic Bastionland, built to ease players out of classic dungeon-crawling habits and into something a little stranger, sharper, and more myth-soaked. Inspired by the Minotaur myth, this one-shot drops your table into the Architect’s abandoned labyrinth, where every twisted hallway feels intentional and nothing is quite as heroic as it first appears.

It’s designed to work just as well for brand new players as it does for seasoned Referees looking to introduce Mythic Bastionland without overwhelming anyone. Most groups will wrap the core adventure in about two hours, but there’s plenty of room to let things spiral outward into your own legends, lands, and bad decisions.

Written by Reilly Qyote and illustrated by Robbi Burns, this adventure is a collaboration between Afterthought Committee and Plus One Exp, and it pairs clean layout with evocative art that makes the maze feel alive. It’s also a spiral-bound flip book, which means it stays open at the table and actually wants to be used during play (a small miracle in RPG publishing).

If you’re curious about Mythic Bastionland or want a mythic one-shot that respects your time and your table, this is a great place to start—just don’t expect the knight to come out looking good.
